Oreo thought her mothering days were over when she arrived at The Cat Clinic for her spay.
As a past stray, taken in and cared for by a good Samaritan, Oreo still hadn't found the perfect home but planned to settle in the already full household of her kind caregiver. She had just finished raising her last litter of kittens, and was still producing a bit of milk. Her caregiver had booked her surgery with The Cat Clinic for a Wednesday morning, and Oreo was patiently awaiting her turn when a staff member of The Cat Clinic came begging at her kennel door with a 3.5 week old kitten in her hands.
"Please like him." The little kitten was held out to her cautiously.
Without hesitation Oreo had begun washing the tired and weak kitten, abandoned by his mother the prior afternoon. When he snuggled her side it was only natural to roll over and let him nurse - a great favor to the Cat Clinic staffer, as now she had a wet nurse for the kitten.
With that the staffer vowed to repay Oreo for her aid and so contacted her caregiver to ask if she could enter Oreo into our adoption program and reduce the caregivers already numerous responsibilities. They accepted.
