Purrcy originally came to our attention when our Adoption Coordinator was at the Hamilton Animal Services looking at Sadie (recently adopted). Here was this super friendly senior, purring away and reaching through the cage at her as she passed by. He had a large wound on his back and looked pretty underweight. She came back to the clinic having plans for Sadie but just couldn’t forget the handsome tuxedo kitty with the big purr.
After talking to Dr.Liz about him we decided to give him a chance. He immediately became a staff favorite. Along his recovery we unfortunately discovered that Purrcy has Renal Disease. This is a common condition in older cats but they can be comfortably maintained for several years. They do require special food that’s lower in protein and phosphorus. At that time we were thinking that he might not be adoptable but that we would look after him for as long as he had.
We are happy to report that Purrcy has surprised us! After being solely on a Kidney Diet for the last several months his blood values have gone back into the normal range! Now we don’t want to mislead anyone, Purrcy does still have Stage Two Renal Disease and this can not be “cured”. He’s doing so well however we feel he deserves a chance to be adopted.
Purrcy is super social so he’s going to need a family who has some time to give him. He’s ok with other “cat friendly” cats (he didn’t work out with Lance as Lance kept jumping on his head).
He loves long romantic lunch dates with a view, serenading his dates, and hugs. If you think you would enjoy this and have the time for a bit of a special needs kitty please consider giving Purrcy a chance.
Our Adoption fee is $175/each this includes the full initial series of vaccinations, spaying, deworming, defleaing, FeLV/FIV testing, treatment for any external parasites, and microchipping.
